My Son’s view: What is old, is new to you…
With Jill crawling around and playing with the old baby toys, Jake thinks that they are new again. Of course I know he would not have memory of being that young, but I find it interesting that this can happen to even grownups. If you are away from something long enough, or it is out of your mind for a long time, that item can be new to you again. It could be music, a book, food, or something else.
Jake has split his time playing with Jill’s toys as his toys. He then complains when she wants to play with his toys. We have tried to explain that she sees you playing with her toys and the his toys, and she thinks she could play with all of the toys. This has yet to sink in with him, yet he has started to share his toys. That has been a big step.
The other side of this is when we have visitors. He has to show everyone what he has and is playing with like he just got it and was very proud of it. This was really evident when my cousin, Trevor and wife were up to go to the clinic and Jake had to show Mary all of his movies and toys. He was really proud of them.
I have noticed this in myself with movies and music the most. There have been some old movies I had not seen in quite a while and have started to watch them while running. They seem almost new to me. My challenge, is to find something that I have not done or read in a long time and start it back up. It could be interesting what is dug up.
